Graphic Novel Characters (in Underpants)

Ha ha, no I'm not dead, I've just been busy animating for the cool people at ReelFX and also in the stressy/exciting situation of buying a house. Needless to say when I have a couple quiet moments I pretty much just want to collapse in front of the TV or pick up groceries so Stephen and I can eat something other than peanut butter sandwiches.

Anyway! Here's a couple drawings I did last week; the beginnings of an official model pack for my graphic novel. I figured since the character's costumes often obscure their body shapes, it would be best to draw them without costumes first. The first guy here is the main character in the book, the other two are a brother and sister he helps/hinders throughout the story.

I'll be back to regular updates soon! :)

Animating at reel FX sounds like a blast! If you run past Justin Barrett tell him a "howdy!" And that he " rocks " for me woulda please.

Is there anything you CAN'T do? Hah.
These guys look great. I like how they all flow so well.
I can't wait to see this story come together in pictures.

And good luck on the house. I know that can be stressful.

Sweet!.... yet again. You, and Mark Behm have inspired me to setup a weekly sketch challenge, for work folk (Sony London) and any others. I've linked to you and Mark as 'Inspiration', which you continue to be. While you're there, check out 'nibbled pencil' in the links list. Ace.

yay, sarah drawings! i can't wait to see more of your graphic novel.
Yay! It's always a nice surprise to see new stuff pop up! ;) I can't wait to see more of these characters - you know I will be calling every bookstore in Southern California (and then some) to order those books .. and put them facing out on the shelves so everyone will find them! :D
Anyways - thanks for the comments on my last drawings (I've since updated and may update again after school .. my school had some drama performances today so I tried to draw my friends).
And yay on your house! Buying a house is always so exciting! :D

"I'm Jim, and like all expert trackers, nothing comes between me and my Calvins."

It's cool to see the characters in their most natural state. By looking at the body types you can get a sense of their poise and how they will move. Good idea!

I think the girl is my fave. I like the lithe structure of her shoulders and torso.

Nice character sketches Sarah. I am looking forward to this book now and also to the parable project.

It looks like you have a load on your plate. Good luck with the house and hope you can find time to recharge and rise above pb&j in the midst of the craziness.

oh cool... I'm glad to hear you're still animating. I knew you'd miss it. The hunger of an animator can not be squelched. What are you working on for reel fx?
